The Camden Spear Trust is a registered charity created in March 2015 as a joint venture between
Resurgo, the charity which started the Spear programme in 2004, and Holy Trinity Swiss Cottage,
where the programme is run. The Camden Spear centre was established in September 2013 and is
working with disadvantaged young people from the local area. The Trust exists to stimulate social
transformation in the local community in partnership with local residents, businesses and other
community representatives.
Camden Spear aims to transform the lives of disadvantaged young people within Camden through the Spear
programme. Spear is a highly interactive, award-winning year-long course that equips and supports
disadvantaged 16 to 24 year-olds who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) to find
long term employment.
There is ongoing concern about the unemployment rate in Camden, especially among the 16-24 year-olds.
The Camden Borough has the second highest percentage of 16-18 year-old NEETs in London. Over 2,500
young people have completed Spear over the past decade. More than 75% of students go back to education
or find work and remain there a year later. These are outstanding outcomes, compared to other public
or private initiatives. The Camden Spear Trust exists to encourage the best possible opportunity
for change in the lives of young people, and we believe that this is exactly what the Spear Course
offers.
Tom’s Trust has given Camden Spear a grant to help them continue providing this valuable opportunity to
young people looking for work or training in the Camden area.
