The Boxing Academy offers an alternative education pathway for students between the ages of 13 and 16 who are at risk of educational exclusion. The Academy was founded in 2006, registered as a charity in 2007, and now has two centres in Tottenham and Hackney.

The Boxing Academy follows a full-time school schedule from 9.30am to 2.45pm, and school term times throughout the year. Their unique model offers intense mentoring and support for young people, placing them in a class of six students with a dedicated boxer who acts as mentor, teacher support and coach throughout their stay at the Academy. They develop a strong relationship that provides a foundation from which the student can embark upon a positive cycle of achievement. The Boxing Academy uses the beneficial effects of sport to empower the students, teach them to manage their anger, give them confidence in learning, direct them towards further education, training or employment, and enable them to play a positive role in their communities.

The success rate is remarkable, with GCSE results transformed and behavioural issues resolved. Tom's Trust has provided funding to help develop the Boxing Academy to its present status. www.theboxingacademy.co.uk
